Twelve Girls. One First-Time Coach. One Dream.
2013 Division Champions, Volleyball
Coach
The coach had never coached. Many of the girls had never won a game, or even played a sport on a team.
Most girls were on free and reduced lunch; they would go on to become the first children in their families to graduate college. However, many referees, coaches, and parents remarked: this group of young girls was the grittiest group they’d ever seen.
Everyone was equal. No one was greater than the other. Even if we lacked in certain areas, we all had hope in our team because we knew together we lacked nothing. There was never a moment where we were not pushing ourselves to take a further step, and strive for more knowledge.
–Dina, former player
Over the course of the season, the team undertook a transformative journey into the heart of the sport, into themselves, and into the team. They learned just how hard they were willing to work for a dream that was worth fighting for.

The girls went the distance. They won it all, and became the first Division Champions the school had seen in almost 60 years.

What people are saying about the leadership.
I believe with your devotion and leadership to the girls, a fun, safe environment was created for them. I know my daughter thoroughly enjoyed playing the game because of you. A coach and leader that teaches by example goes a long way with young people and you definitely were just that!

Being on the team was a blast. Not only because of the group of girls on the team, but because of our coach. Today, as a sophomore college athlete, Ms. Hannah is still one of my favorite coaches! She was always so encouraging, uplifting, and always had a smile on her face. She made it fun but also rewarding, because she made us all better players or people in general. Her great leadership skills and her being an amazing person has made a mark on a lot of people. She’s such an inspiration!

As a coach, you pushed me to be the best I could be, on and off the court. You knew how to push us and when to push us. You never excluded anyone and made sure everyone was included. Your heart and determination were something that drove the team and still drives me today.
